On August 31, 2026, Axsome Therapeutics announced that the first patient was dosed in the Phase 3 SUMMIT trial evaluating AXS-05 for smoking cessation. The randomized, controlled trial assesses the efficacy and safety of AXS-05 compared to bupropion and placebo over a 12-week treatment period. AXS-05 is currently marketed under the trade name Auvelity for major depressive disorder and agitation associated with Alzheimer's disease.
