On September 1, 2026, Methanex announced an agreement to sell substantially all of its remaining New Zealand natural gas contractual entitlements starting in the first quarter of 2027. Due to persistent declines in domestic gas supply, the company expects to indefinitely idle its New Zealand methanol production facilities during the first quarter of 2027. Methanex plans to preserve the facilities for a potential future restart if gas availability improves.
